the free video encyclopedia that anyone can edit

Vidipedia which is a video encyclopedia, basically Wikipedia with Videos. The principle is of course the same. You search for a phrase or browse a category on Vidipedia and one or more results are shown on the next page. If a single result exists it will be shown in video player mode which loads and plays the video automatically. All videos can be downloaded in flash video format (flv) to your computer. Videos can be embedded into websites as well which means it offers the same basic functionality as Youtube for instance.
Vidipedia is not that know as of yet it seems. The main page has been accessed about 500.000 times which is probably less than what Wikipedia receives per day.
Categories on the other hand look really interesting and should draw a larger crowd to the website. The general history category for instance contains some nice videos about World War II which are rather interesting to watch. Other categories that could be of interest are Politics and Technology. It will surely become more popular over time when more videos get uploaded to the site.
